A realish world telling of the goose girl/donkey skin story. Imaginative touches are spoiled by a slow, earnest clunkiness.

For the girls and women who never out-grew fairy tales. Hale creates a vivid and magical world that you wish you could step into. The original version of the Goose Girl was always on on my least favorite fairytales while I was growing up (seriously, a talking horse's head?) Amazingly, Hale's version is one of my favorite fairytale retellings. What more can I say?

For older readers wanting more of Shannon Hale: The Actor and the Housewife (THE FUNNIEST book and best ending I have EVER read) and Austenland (the epitomy of every girl's DREAM come true, just a little later :P)

The goose girl is an enchanting retelling of the original fairy tale by the Grimm Brothers. It is full of adventure, romance, and description. Shannon Hale is the best author in the world. There are three other books in this series: Enna Burning, River Secrets, and Forest Born. I reccomend this book to anyone who loves getting lost in a book. I dont mean to spoil the the ending, but let me just say this: they all live happily ever after. :)

This is the book that really got me started on YA fiction and fantasy. I'd always loved the fairy tale The Goose Girl so the title alone caught my attention. It's also the only book that I've finished, immediately flipped back to the beginning, and started reading over again. And now, 7-ish years later, it's still one of my favorite books. Shannon Hale rocks.
