Ruby is a neurotic with an unhappy track record concerning men and Sam is an oddball who is afraid of small dogs and has a barcode tattooed to his arm. Slowly, Sam begins to reveal his "past." He tells her that he is from the Dubuque of the future and that he hails from a family who believe that reproduction should occur the old-fashioned, fun way as opposed to the cloning method. Ruby is amused until she realizes that he's not kidding. After a series of arguments, he agrees to visit Ruby's analyst, which yields unexpected results.

This is a quirky little film that might seem silly at first, but when you look deeper, this is actually a quite serious story. There is a lot of comedy around the edges and lots of chances of laugh and smile but at the heart of it is a tragic love story. This is a pretty serious guy, where he comes from is serious and what he's doing is serious. That's the magic of this movie, the comedy on the surface and the drama underneath. Think of it as "Terminator" without the killer robots.
