Add a CommentTithe is that one kid in the back of the class-room that tries way too hard to be edgy. Throwing out curse words for no other reason then to seem like a bad girl/boy. I wasn't impressed.
Although this book didn't draw me in quickly, once I read a couple chapters it became more interesting and I was pulled in by the dynamic characters. I recommend it to people who like fey books and/or fantasies. Most likely girls as well.
This is a great book, I couldn't put it down. Who would say it's good for ages sixteen and older? I don't know if they remember being thirteen or fourteen, but I'm certain they could handle it, because I can't imagine a fourteen-year-old who can't handle it.
Haven't really read much from Holly Black except the Posion Eaters which i didn't finish. Was crazy about it. This has been in my list of books i want to read. I am glad I read it. For a teen book i was a bit surprised about some of the things she writes. I didn't expect to hear how a sixteen year old lights up a cigarette and smokes and the drinking. Some of the newer books seem to take these every day things that teens do as a taboo topic. Anyway it's real. You could totally relate to the mundane things that happen to Kaye and the way Holly Black intertwines the two worlds is amazing. Looking forward to the second book.
Nicely textured, but definitely a teen book. Sets up for a sequel, I suppose.
Holly Black has a really gritty writing style, something that you will either love or hate. I loved it. My first introduction to the growing genre of urban fantasy, it was a bit jarring at first to see the mix of the two. (I've since read quite a few more). But I liked it. The writing was incredible, the plot well paced and interesting, and the characters were stunning. Probably not good for younger children, more of a mid to older teen book.
This book is not good. It's confusing and I don't like this at all.
