Add a CommentIt took me a bit to catch on to everyone at first, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. Great story and excellent cast - and loved the period costumes.
It took me awhile to catch on, but once I did, I sure enjoyed the ride. Altman made another masterpiece. I think it helped me better understand the surrealism, having seen 'Beyond Therapy', his forgotten and misunderstood gem from the late '80s. This is a surreal, comic and dreamy satire that made me laugh out loud several times. Extremely amusing. And yes, I it's worthy of several repeated viewings (I"m sure I missed a lot).
Filmed at Wrotham Park. Feels like the countryside, but is actually outer London.
This is a must see for anyone who loves british drama and dry humour. A wonderful character driven who done it.
By far, the best part of this movie was seeing was life was like under the upper crust (which, by the way, is just a bunch of crumbs sticking together). The acting's first rate, especially Maggie Smith.
Can be viewed multiple times: you *will* find things you didn't notice the first, or second, time around. Not hilarious, but definitely funny, and with a fair amount of drama as well.
love the story. great acting.
Wonderful story with some great acting. Very well cast, settings were beautiful and costumes were stunning. There is so much going on that it warrents several viewings.
I love Altman's style. This is one of his best.
One of the characters, Ivor Novello, was a real-life actor. His "The Lodger" is available here. See the "similar titles".
