Very well written gothic ghost story. I have not seen the movie and don't know if it can live up to the way in which the written copy can weave it's way into the imagination. Very quick read and much fun! An old fashioned, Dickens, Austen style story.

I was pleasantly surprised here/ i am not a horror fan but enjoyed this book alot. It was a good imitation of a gothic victorian novel. Brings to mind "Wuthering Heights" and the atmosphere the reader experiences.

Yes this is the book that the movie is based off of. But they changed everything about it. Te me they were two separate tales and I enjoy both. I’m glad I read this after seeing the movie, though. The ending was even different than in the movie. It was a completely different story, as I stated before. The way this woman wrote it made it feel as though someone in past, about 1800s, was writing it for me although this was written in the 1980s. I recommend this to a person who is ready for slower start to a tale and can handle the old-timey feel of things. Also I think that if you’ve seen the movie or are going to see the movie you should set aside some time to read this.

Quite a nice, although old-fashioned, ghost story. It's not really scary, so much as spooky. The writing style is very evocative.
