Katniss is back, playing a very dangerous political game with the Capitol and President Snow. She is a champion, a victor of the Hunger Games. Her life should be one of wealth and luxury. Instead she is pretending to be in love with Peeta, playing along with the plan that saved them both in the Hunger Games, because to not do so would mean death. But then the capital puts its own twist on the Quarter Quell, forcing two of the victors from each district back into the arena to fight again. Can Katniss survive again? Collins again does an amazing job telling us Katniss's story. And this time we learn more about the uprisings in the other districts that were happening while Katniss was in the arena. We also learn of bigger events happening behind the scenes and how far the resistance has really spread. Excellent story telling, although you start to question how smart Katniss is. She can survive, but the rest of the resistance keeps her in the dark because they can't trust her to make the smart choice. This is most likely a choice by Collins to heighten the dramatic tension and put Katniss in real danger, but it weakens the character somewhat.

Alright, how about everyone stops posting their position in queue, meaningless lyrics, or comments completely in 'text'? In my opinion, the book was both better and worse than the first book. Better because of more action and danger...and worse because of the silly love-triangle and Katniss's whining. Yes, her and everyone she loves could die at any minute, but the least she could do is buck up and take it like she did in the last book. Did the games make her a wimp or something? Anyways, I'll read the next book just to finish the series but 'Catching Fire' isn't as good as the first book in my opinion, yet still an okay read.

This book was not as inticing as the first book. Although it moved at a slightly slower pace, the book was not as well written.

summary in back- Against all oods, Katniss has survived the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at a icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol--a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create. Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest that she's afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she's not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol's cruel victory tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can't prove, without a shadow of doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying. Katniss is about to be tested as never before.

Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark won the annual competition described in Hunger Games, but the aftermath leaves these victors with no sense of triumph. Instead, they have become the poster boys for a rebellion that they never planned to lead. That new, unwanted status puts them in the bull's-eye for merciless revenge by The Capitol. Catching Fire maintains the adrenaline rush of Suzanne Collins's series launch.
