Add a CommentI'm sorry but I HATED this book.. It was just horrible.
I was incredibly Disappointed. I love speak, but this book did not live up to it. Lia was very whiny, and annoying, and I found myself wanting to stop reading 1/4 the way through. but i finished it anyway, and i regret wasting my time.
As an recovered eating disorder sufferer, I found this book to be incredibly on-point. Laurie Halse-Anderson's portrayal of the dark and lonely secret life of eating disorders if chillingly, hauntingly accurate. This book stays with the reader, long after the last page is read.
I really enjoyed this book. It had suicide, cutting, anorexia, bulimia, and ghosts/schizophrenia all wrapped up into one. A very tough to read book but very good as well. For me it kind of hit me on the anorexia bit, which was almost all the novel. But back to the book. In a nutshell her best friend died, she slipped back into her anorexia ways, and in the end she got readmitted. What really impressed me was how, like most authors would do these days, Lia was strong enough to help herself rather than let a big and strong man help her instead. I loved the ending for that reason. She vanquished her own demons rather than let someone do it herself. I recommend this book to someone who is interested in hearing about the tough stuff in life first hand.
Was an amazing read. As a pretty slow reader, I finished this book in a week. I highly recommend it to anyone who is willing to read about anorexics. I read it last year and have not yet forgotten a single incident, for it has made a huge impact on myself.
One of the worst books if not THE worst book I have ever read! I hated the narrator.. Horrible. Don't waste your time.
wow an amazing book!:)
Very good book for teenage girls suffering from depressin and eating dissorders. i found it helped me through a dark time in my life, knowing that i was not the only one
Brutal in its realistic portrayal of the depths of anorexia. Haunting and amazing.
