I truly enjoyed reading this book. It is written as a journal and I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next. I gave it 4 1/2 stars just because I had already figured out the ending by the first pages of the book --predictable, but still very readable.

I love fairytales! And, Hale's version on Rapunzel is a unique and exciting taking on this old tale.

One of those ridiculously rare books that are INCREDIBLE. The kind of incredible where you can't put it down because it is so engaging; however, the thing that sets this book apart from the others is that if you have copious amounts of time you can sit down and read it until it's done, but if you don't, it's unique layout allows you to put it down if you absolutely must at several key points. As a very busy student with no time to speak of (except a very little during breakfast and just before sleeping) this kind of attribute highly endears the book to myself even if the story weren't so captivating and heartfelt.

Apparently its a rewrite of the fairytail "Maid Maleen", but it is really different from the actual story. I loved it!

From the back cover of the book: [italics][pale blue] My lady and I are being shut up in a tower for seven years.[/italics][/pale blue] When Lady Saren refuses to marry a man she fears, she and her maid, Dashti, are locked in a tower with just a tiny flap open to the outside world. As food runs low and the weather changes from broiling hot to unbearably cold, it is all Dashti can do to make them comfortable in their dark prison. Not long after their confinement begins, Saren's suitors arrive--one welcome, the other less so--and she orders Dashti to speak to them. Impersonating Lady Saren is a crime punishable by death, but Dashti will have to play the role many times if she is to save them both from the tower and the dangers outside. As she takes control of their desperate situation, Dashti begins to understand her own astonishing talents and believe that even a low-born maid can find true love.
